Attic Insulation Services
in Tennessee
Shumate Insulation Services Experts recommend a routine professional insulation assessment for homeowners with homes 10 years or older.
If you’re experiencing any unusually high temperatures or high energy bills, it’s possible that new insulation needs to be installed in your home, starting with an attic insulation installation.
What is Insulation?
Home insulation creates a barrier that reduces heat transfer between the inside and outside of your house. This barrier is essential for maintaining a comfortable home temperature.
Attic insulation helps keep cool air in during summer and warm air in during winter. Without adequate attic insulation, you may as well be throwing money out the roof.

How to Protect Your Home This Winter
Comfortable Temperatures & Savings
Proper insulation can improve your home's energy efficiency, reducing reliance on heating and cooling appliances.
Homeowners can save up to 30% on heating and cooling costs with proper insulation. Over time, these savings add up and well worth the investment.
A well-insulated home maintains consistent temperatures in every room, eliminating hot or cold spots.
Signs You Need an Insulation Assessment
Investing in proper home insulation, particularly in your attic, is a smart move that pays off in energy efficiency, cost savings, and overall improved comfort. If you're experiencing temperature inconsistencies or high energy bills, it might be time for an insulation assessment.
Uneven Temperatures
Rooms or floors may feel noticeably warmer or cooler than others. This is often due to inadequate or unevenly distributed insulation from your attic, allowing heat to escape or enter.
High Energy Bills
A sudden or gradual increase in your heating and cooling costs can indicate poor attic insulation. When insulation is insufficient, your HVAC system works harder to maintain desired temperatures, leading to higher energy consumption.
Air Leaks and Drafts
Feeling cold air near walls, ceilings, or attic doors, especially on upper floors, suggests gaps in your insulation. These drafts force your heating system to compensate.
Condensation
Excessive moisture on windows, walls, or ceilings can be a sign of inadequate insulation, as it fails to regulate humidity effectively.
Mold & Mildew Growth
Mold or mildew in your attic or on upper floors allows moisture to accumulate and create ideal conditions for growth.
Settling and Shifting Insulation
Insulation can settle or shift, creating gaps and reducing its effectiveness. This is particularly common with loose-fill insulation.
Insulation Compression
Compressed insulation loses its ability to trap air effectively, breaking down its insulating properties. This can occur when items are stored on top of insulation or when it's improperly installed.
Insolation Deterioration
Old insulation can break down, become less effective, or even develop gaps. This is especially true for older homes or those with outdated insulation materials. Shumate Attic Insulation Experts recommend upgrading attic insulation for homes 10 years or older.

Frequently Asked HVAC Questions
Why is my upstairs so much warmer and drier than my downstairs?
The simple answer is that heat rises - so that even the warm air your downstairs system generates moves upstairs gradually. And, all that warm air tends to dry things out - from your leather furniture to your nose! There are some options that might help the flow of warm air in the house, and a humidifier will remedy the dryness problems associated with winter and heating.
How can I reduce my heating costs in the winter?
Make sure to schedule your preventative maintenance. A maintained system dramatically lengthens the life of your equipment, saving you thousands of dollars by not having to prematurely replace your system. Shumate Comfort Customers enjoy pre-season preventive maintenance check-ups twice a year. They're also entitled to other benefits like priority service and special discounts.
How often should I change my filter?
This really depends on what kind of filter is being used, and how much you use your system. Usually, you want to change your filter at least every three months - but if you are using a high efficiency filter, then it only needs to be changed every six months to twelve months.
Why does my circuit breaker keep tripping?
There could be a loose connection on high voltage wiring or the motor could be failing. These connections need to be checked as well as monitoring the amps for the motors and capacitors. The capacitors are used to help larger motors start and should be replaced every 5 years.
Why did my heat pump ice during the winter?
This could be due to low refrigerant charge or a restricted outdoor coil. The outdoor coil may need to be cleaned off and the refrigerant charge would need to be checked.
Why does my pilot light keep going out?
This could be due to a weak thermocouple or a failed safety switch. The output of the thermocouple needs to be checked. These also need to be changed every 3 years. The safety switch is put inline of the thermocouple. In the event the unit overheats it will shut off the pilot light to stop operations.
